BullGuard offers advanced anti-malware protection, some pretty useful extra features, and a really good game booster that enhances PC performance for gamers. However, it has some shortcomings and there are better products out there, such as Norton or Bitdefender.
Bulldog Virus Protection
For my testing, I downloaded a huge archive of 997 malware samples to my PC, including viruses, trojans, worms, ransomware, spyware, adware, keyloggers, rootkits, and cryptojackers. I saved these samples in different locations around my disk, changing their file names. I even compressed some of the malware files in a ZIP archive.
Just like so many other antivirus applications, BullGuard antivirus promises to protect you online. This protection consists of the three classic components: protection against malicious websites, marking of malicious search results and BullGuard Secure Browser for your special web surfing needs. As so often, this functionality comes with issues of its own, some being unusually obvious.
The first and very obvious issue was found in the protection against malicious websites. While this functionality often cannot be relied upon, circumventing it typically requires some effort. Not so with BullGuard Antivirus: merely adding a hardcoded character sequence to the address would make BullGuard ignore a malicious domain.
To implement this pop-up, the developers used an interesting trick: connections to port 3220 will always be redirected to the antivirus application, no matter which domain. So navigating to :3220/html?eWFob28uY29t will yield the following response:
Current BullGuard Antivirus release uses a hid parameter with a value dependent on website and current session. So neither predicting its value nor reusing a value from one website to unblock another should work any more.
BullGuard is a cybersecurity company based out of London. Although their software isn't as often discussed as big names like Norton, Avast, or Kaspersky, they've been producing antivirus software since around 2002 and retain a solid fan base.
So, BullGuard's UI isn't necessarily better or worse than other antivirus UIs - it's just different. That being said, it may be a bit easier to get around, but that really depends on your personal preference.
Various tests have also shown that BullGuard has a very low system impact compared to other antivirus suites. The folks over at pcmag.com, for instance, showed that BullGuard had a 2 % system impact over three tests, with only a few pieces of software having a lower impact.
Given that it's a bit cheaper than other mid-tier security suites, and offers as good or nearly as good protection, it's a good option if you want to save a little money. The one glaring flaw is the lack of a VPN, but you can always download an effective, free one from another cybersecurity developer.
Norton's 2017 acquisition of LifeLock was a $2.3 billion deal and allowed Norton to offer dark web monitoring, identity protection, and identity restoration services to consumers, which is now one of the top identity protection and monitoring services available.
From 2010 to 2021, 24 companies were brought by the Norton umbrella, with a combined known value of over $18 billion. This included direct competitors in the consumer space and other big names with hundreds of millions of monthly active users in the antivirus industry.
Next, in 2016, came Blue Coat Systems, which was behind the consumer success K9 Web Protection, and came with a giant market share in enterprise software. It was acquired for over $4.6 billion. The the followiung year came LifeLock. That's also when the Norton-branded VPN, including in many Norton packages, came into being, with the $38.5 million take over of SurfEasy, Inc. With this technology, Norton became one of the best antivirus suites with VPNs.
Avast Software, founded as Alwil Software in 1988, faced fierce competition from then-Symantec which used an aggressive pricing model. Instead, Avast offered a free version of its software, a radical decision that made it the largest antivirus firm in the world.
This means that NortonLifeLock currently has three household names under its umbrella. Avast and AVG have been working on combining the features and protection capability of their software since the 2016 merge. AVG had behavioral detection that Avast did not, and Avast had cloud detection that AVG didn't. The merge of AVG and Avast changed little on the front end but offered consumers the best technology from two leaders in the antivirus industry in the background.
Little has changed on the face of Avira, AVG, and Avast since the Norton acquisition. It is likely to stay this way, at least for the time being, as all brands have their own loyal customers and reputations. Like Avast and AVG, it would be good to see the backend of the NortonLifeLock antivirus software combine the best technology from all its brands.
BullGuard was one of the best pieces of antivirus software with performance optimization for PC gamers and was known for being a lightweight and unobtrusive solution. It had unique features like PC optimization and tune-up, a game booster, a vulnerability scanner to patch holes in your operating system and software that could be exploited to compromise your system, and a secure browser all built-in.
As we saw with the Avast and AVG merger, great things can come from market leaders combining their technologies. Avast's cloud detection and AVG's behavior scanning combined have created amazing products. NortonLifeLock is in a good position to combine the data and technology in all of its brands to create the best protection and detection capabilities around.

Ok, let us proceed with our Bullguard review and take a look at the pros and cons. There are many outstanding antivirus solutions out there that proved their worth over the years. Will this one manage to do the same?
AV-Comparatives, one of the most respected independent companies that specialize in testing antiviruses put BullGuard through a series of tough tests. All three packages showed amazing results in traditional virus detection during their BullGuard reviews. And appear to be one of the best virus detection software we have ever tried. At the same time, in real-time scanning, they reached above-average ratings.

Malware consists of viruses, spyware and other potentially unwanted software. Microsoft Defender Antivirus is free and is included in Windows, always on and always working to protect your PC against malware.
Hackers and scammers sometimes use fake antimalware software to trick you into installing viruses or malware on your computer. Should you wish to explore alternatives to the already installed or available Microsoft antimalware software on your Windows PC, the reputable security companies listed below provide consumer security software that is compatible with Windows. Just click the company name to see the Windows-compatible product they offer.
Important: Microsoft Defender Antivirus will turn off if you install another antimalware program to protect your PC. Before you install antimalware software, check to make sure you don't already have another 3rd party antimalware product on your computer. If you do, be sure to remove the product you don't want before you install the new one. It can cause problems on your computer to have two different antimalware products installed and running at the same time.
We immunize with Zoetis vaccine (Pfizer) which comes highly recommended by our vet (this vaccination is also known as a DHPP or DAPP vaccination, i.e., Distemper, Andenovirus or Hepatitis, Parainfluenza and Parvovirus vaccine), and we have been very happy with it. Zoetis is a modified live virus for vaccination of healthy dogs 6 weeks of age or older as an aid in preventing canine distemper caused by canine distemper (CD) virus, infectious canine hepatitis (ICH) caused by canine adenovirus type 1 (CAV-1), respiratory disease caused by canine adenovirus type 2 (CAV-2), canine parainfluenza caused by canine parainfluenza (CPI) virus, and canine parvoviral enteritis caused by canine parvovirus (CPV). The first vaccination that we give at 6 weeks also includes a protection against corona virus. The vaccinations at 9 and 12 weeks do not contain the corona virus protection (this is given only once), but we do give Bordetella vaccinations at 9 & 12 weeks (the DAPP vaccine and the Bordetella vaccine can actually be mixed so that a single injection is given). 2ff7e9595c
